Processing time: Minimum 3 weeks
Cost: An earnest money deposit payable to "Holsum Route Sales" for the Seller's account is required toward the purchase. The deposit is usually $500 but can be any amount the Seller and Buyer agree upon and is non-refundable at Seller's option unless the Buyer receives a contingency such as obtaining satisfactory financing.
When you select a route to buy, you will meet with the Seller, ride the route, check out the vehicle, look at the Seller's books and tax returns, etc., to determine if this is the route for you. Once you and the Seller have come to terms, you will complete a 2-page Sales Packet. Page 1 outlines the components of the sale, lists the stops, shows the net gross sales volume averaged over the past 52-weeks, and calculates the current gross profit (income or proceeds).
Page 2 is a simple "Buyer's Monthly Pro Forma" designed to help you determine the amount of income and expenses you will have from operating this route. By looking at the net income (profit) shown on this form, you will be able to better decide if you will initially make the income desired for you and your family.
If so, you will attach an earnest money check for an amount agreed upon between you and the Seller (usually $500) and submit to your Area Coordinator for submittal. Once received at the Holsum sales office, the route sale processing begins, which takes about 3 weeks.
Your closing usually takes place the Wednesday prior to the effective date of ownership on a Monday (the beginning of the Holsum weekly accounting cycle). You, the Seller and a Holsum Sales representative will be present, along with the Holsum Sales Services facilitator to execute the paperwork of the sale. At that time, you (and your guests) will meet with our Accounts Receivable Manager who will introduce you to the proper procedures on paperwork transmittal. You may also tour our 200,000 square foot Main Bakery.
